Sanitary Fittings FAQ
Common questions when selecting stainless steel sanitary fittings and connection systems.
Clamp or Weld Fittings?
Clamp fittings are designed for easy assembly and breakdown, making them useful where process lines require cleaning access or regular service. Weld fittings are intended for permanent process piping and are commonly used where the installed system can be cleaned in place.
Polished or Unpolished Weld?
Wayland polished weld fittings provide a 32Ra ID/OD finish for sanitary applications. Unpolished weld fittings have a tumbled mill finish for installations where a sanitary polished surface is not required.
304 or 316L Stainless Steel?
304 stainless steel is commonly selected for general sanitary processing because it provides dependable corrosion resistance for many food, beverage and clean-process applications. 316L contains molybdenum, which provides greater resistance to chlorides, acids and other corrosive process media. The appropriate alloy should be selected according to the process chemistry, cleaning method, operating environment and project specification.
What Are Pipe Size Fittings Used For?
Pipe size fittings are commonly used when a process line transitions from traditional schedule pipe but needs to maintain the pipe size while adding sanitary clamp connections. They can also adapt a traditional piping system to sanitary tube-size or clamp connections.
Does Wayland Offer European Fittings?
Yes. Wayland offers DIN and SMS sanitary fittings for European connection systems, including configurations designed to transition imported process equipment to imperial tube dimensions.
Are Material Test Reports Available?
Material documentation and traceability support are available for Wayland products. Contact Wayland with the product or project requirements when MTR documentation is needed.
Can Wayland Supply Custom Fittings?
